Nursery Person – Plant Health
 
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma plus two-year certificate in horticulture or related field required.
  • Minnesota Pesticide Applicator license required after hire. Knowledge of pest control, soil science, and horticultural production practices required.
  • Knowledge of equipment and vehicle maintenance procedures preferred.
  • Must have a valid Class D Minnesota driver’s license or equivalent out-state license.
  • Certificate in training in CPR and First Aid a plus. Must be accepted as insurable with Bachman’s Insurance carrier considering a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) and Bachman’s Safe Driver Standards.
  • Conversational Spanish speaking ability preferred.  MNLA Nursery Professional Certification preferred.
  • Three years horticulture/agriculture/agronomy field experience including experience with pest control, pesticide application, fertilization, and equipment operation required.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance preferred. (Five years of experience may substitute for the two-year certificate requirement.)
  • Experience directly related to nursery production preferred.

Duties:
  • Direct and/or perform nursery pest control practices including: pest identification, development of pest control strategies, pesticide applications, and equipment maintenance. Maintain communication with supervisor on all pest or cultural problems.
  • Direct and/or perform field and container soils management duties including soil testing, fertilizer prescription and application, soil mixing, and record keeping.
  • Procure pest control and related production and maintenance supplies and products as directed. Maintain/submit all paperwork related to purchases as directed. Maintain product storage areas.
  • Maintain all necessary records and communications as required by law and corporate policy in a neat, timely, and orderly fashion.
  • Follow all safety precautions and procedures. Conduct pest control handler and worker protection training programs as directed.
  • Direct and/or perform all Nurseryperson duties including pruning, irrigating, shearing, planting, cultivating, weeding, fertilizing, and other as directed. Direct or perform all aspects of field harvest and shipping operations to insure the delivery of quality stock in an efficient, timely, and safe manner.
  • Support Bachman’s across the company with pesticide application training and safety
  • Provide work direction and training to Assistant Nursery Persons, Nursery Helpers, and seasonal employees.
  • Perform other duties to include duties of lower classifications and/or duties in other departments as directed.

Hours:
7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. Weekends and overtime as needed.  This position will require flexible scheduling during the peak season including nights/weekends.

Compensation: 24.76/hour
