Lead Nursery Person – Field Production Full Time Union Position
Essential Qualifications:
High school diploma plus two-year certificate in horticulture or equivalent required.
Must have strong background and knowledge in field production practices including planting, pruning, irrigation, pest control, soils management, space planning, and etc.
Leadership skills required
Requires a valid Class D Minnesota driver’s license or equivalent.
Strong working knowledge of landscape plant materials commonly found in Minnesota landscapes preferred.
Must be accepted as insurable with Bachman’s Insurance carrier via semi-annual Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) and compliance with Bachman’s Safe Driver Standards.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Desirable Qualifications:
CDL driver’s License preferred.
MNLA Nursery Professional Certification preferred.
Three years of experience in a nursery or farm production setting including two years of nursery field production experience.
Two years of leadership role experience.
Must be able to operate a variety of nursery production equipment including farm tractor, skid loader, forklift, front-end loader, tree spade, semi-tractor/trailer, or others as needed.
Demonstrated strong and effective team leadership skills required.
Duties:
Direct and/or perform all cultural practices necessary including: spraying, pruning, irrigation, shearing, planting, weeding, fertilizing and others as directed.
Direct and/ or perform pest control duties to include chemical pesticide applications for insects, disease and weed control. Keep necessary records. Follow all safety precautions and procedures.
Maintain communication with Manager on all pest or cultural problems.
Direct or perform all aspects of field growing, digging and shipping operations to ensure the delivery of quality field nursery stock in an efficient, timely and safe manner.
Operate all equipment necessary for all nursery production. May include tractor with dump wagon, skid loader, forklift and any other vehicles pertaining to nursery production.
Maintain accurate records and complete necessary paperwork in a neat and timely manner.
Provide work direction and training to Nursery Persons, Assistant Nursery Persons, Nursery Helpers and seasonal employees.
Always maintain facilities in a neat condition
Perform light maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned, including possible reassignment to other work areas during the off-season or at other times as needed.
